Frequently Asked Questions and Specification sheet

How individual will my conservatory be?
Our conservatories are individually designed and built. We have never built two structures alike.

What are your conservatories made of?
Our buildings are made from extremely durable hardwood. Obvious advantages of using timber as opposed to other materials are its natural warmth, its ability to be moulded, shaped and the quality of finish obtainable. We use both toughened and laminated glass for our double-glazed windows. Many of our manufacturing techniques are traditional but we use modern techniques and modern materials where these processes are superior.

What maintenance is required?
To keep maintenance to a minimum, at every stage of the design we look at making each building more durable. For years little more than repainting the conservatory should be necessary. Gutters, roof caps, glass, fixtures, and fittings are made from aluminum and are virtually maintenance free.

What guarantee do you offer with your buildings?
We give a five-year guarantee on our workmanship. It is unlikely but if within a five-year period any component including double glazed panels fails due to the quality of our work it will be replaced without question.

The position I have in mind for the conservatory is awkward, can you help?
I'm pretty sure we can, since all our conservatories are truly custom made we can deal with just about any situation, whether it's wrap-a-round conservatory, above ground level or a listed building.

How much do your conservatories cost?
Prices start at around £ 15,000 for a roof lantern, and £25,000 for an average sized conservatory.

Do you charge for designing my conservatory?
Yes we do, but the design fee is fully refundable if you decide to proceed. Please follow link to the design process.

Standard specification

Planning:
If required we apply for all necessary planning permission, listed building consent and building regulation applications on behalf of our clients.

Surveying:
Once a contract has been agreed a full survey is carried out by one of our surveyors. Final drawings and a detailed base plan of the conservatory are then prepared for manufacture.

Timber:
Our buildings are made from hand selected the best quality hardwood available from sustainable sources. All timber complies with current building regulations – BS1186.

Colour:
Any RAL colour finish can be provided. Conservatories are painted with modern micro-porous paints. These finishes allow moisture to evaporate through their coatings reducing the risk of flaking or blistering.

Glass:
Safety glass is incorporated in all inner and outer sections of roof and wall glazing. Buildings are Argon filled double-glazed throughout with factory sealed units. Roof glass has toughened 6 mm outer layer 24 mm airspace and 6 mm toughened inner layer. Wall glass has 4mm toughened outer and inner layers and a 12 mm airspace. All double glazed units comply with current building regulations – BS6206.

Roofs:
Maintenance free roofs are provided by the use of specially formed aluminum capping bars, which are finished with an enameled coating. They incorporate watertight Neoprene weather seals. Roof vents are fitted where specified and operate either manually or automatically.

Windows & doors:
Doors are fitted with three point security locks or rim locks with security bolts to comply with current British Standards and meet insurance requirements. Windows are fitted with casement fasteners, casement stays and hinge bolts. Frames close onto air and water tight Neoprene draught seals. Fixtures and fittings are available in either polished brass or chromed brass.

Gutters & drainage:
Gutters are made from profiled cast aluminum. Box and valley gutters are lined with bonded waterproof membrane, as conditions require. A bitumen damp proof course is installed under all sills. Frames abutting other structures are sealed with silicone or mastic. Roof junctions and wall plates are flashed with code 4 lead.
